NewsShirley Jones rings her first quarter pealBy ringing the tenor behind to 1260 Plain Bob Doubles on the front six bells at All Saints, Shirley Jones, a regular supporter of ringing in Northampton, recently completed her first quarter peal. It was rung before Choral Evensong on Sunday 7th July 2013 and took 48 minutes. The band comprised: Bridget Paul 1, Kevin Browne 2, Graham Paul, who conducted the ringing, 3, Alan Cozens 4, Nicholas Parsons 5, Shirley Jones 6. The other ringers congratulated Shirley at the conclusion of the quarter peal for ringing steadily throughout. Peal at St Peter'sA visiting band rang 5088 Quito Surprise Major at St Peter's on Saturday 6th July 2013, the peal taking 2 hours and 47 minutes to complete. It was rung to commemorate the Battle of Northampton which took place at Delapre near this church on 10th July 1460. Problems with the clock chime at Holy SepulchreThe Town Centre practice at Holy Sepulchre on 8th May 2013 was brought to a halt when worrying noises could be heard whilst the bells were being rung at the start of the practice. Inspection showed that the clock hammer on the seventh bell was catching the wheel of that bell. The bells were quickly lowered so that a temporary repair could be carried out by tying the chime so that it was clear of the wheel. The practice then continued. Half muffled ringing at All SaintsAt the request of Priest-in-Charge, Father David McConkey, All Saints bells were rung half muffled prior to a memorial evensong for Baroness Thatcher OM on Sunday 28th April 2013. An attempt was made to ring a quarter peal of Plain Bob Triples but the bells came into rounds prematurely after 1092 changes had been rung. The band comprised: 1 Alan Cozens, 2 Bridget Paul, 3 John Lindsay, 4 Jennie Higson,5 Graham Paul, 6 Colin Sampson, 7 Nicholas Parsons (conductor), 8 Kevin Browne. Quarter peal at Holy SepulchreIn recent weeks no less than six of the congregation at Holy Sepulchre have celebrated their 90th birthday. Northampton Ringing Society members played their part by ringing a quarter peal of Plain Bob Major, 1344 changes, on Saturday 27th April 2013. The quarter peal took 49 minutes to complete and those taking part were as follows: 1 Kevin Browne, 2 Alan Cozens, 3 Mary Horsley, 4 Bridget Paul, 5 Jennie Higson, 6 Nicholas Parsons, 7 Graham Paul, 8 Colin Sampson. Holy Sepulchre Tower Captain Colin Sampson conducted the ringing which was watched by some of the 90 year olds. |
