All Saints bells ring for the Street Fair

A quarter peal was rung at All Saints on the morning of Saturday 26th October to welcome the St Crispin Street Fair to Northampton. The Fair opened on Sunday 27th and continued for three days. The quarter peal comprised 1260 changes of Plain Bob Royal and the following members of the Northampton Ringers Society took part: 1 Bridget Paul, 2 Jennie Higson, 3 Kevin Browne, 4 John Lindsay, 5 Giles Willson, 6 Greg Jordan, 7 Robin Hickmott, 8 Brett Masters, 9 Nicholas Parsons, 10 Graham Paul. The quarter peal took 48 minutes to complete and was conducted by Jennie Higson. Greg Jordan is to be congratulated as it was his first quarter peal of Royal.

Cake! Oh and some ringing too.

A plan is afoot to try and have cake once a fortnight at practice nights. With 28 ringers we should have at least one birthday per fortnight and if there is a birthday there needs to be cake! The plan is progressing well with Peter Craddock bringing chocolate cake to St Peter's on Wednesday. Unfortunately some ringers have birthdays on the same date so one of them may have to be designated a different date as their 'official' birthday! Those people will be informed on a need to know basis. We also did some ringing at St Peter's with some excellent progress made. Janet Young rang the treble to Bastow without anyone standing by her; Peter Craddock and Marian Johnson rang the treble to Little Bob - not at the same time; Liz Moore, Shirley Jones and Elaine Seaton rang plain hunt on different bells. At the second practice methods ranged from Plain Bob Triples to Surprise Major. All in all a good night, especially the cake!

A successful Sunday

Sunday 6th October 2013 proved to be a very successful day for members of the Northampton Ringers Society.
In the morning ten members met at St Giles allowing all ten bells to be rung for the 10am service. Most then moved to Holy Sepulchre where all eight bells were rung before the 11am service by the nine ringers present .
In the afternoon All Saints bells were heard before the 6pm Choral Evensong. A quarter peal of 1296 changes of Plain Bob Caters was rung by the following members: 1 Alan Cozens, 2 Jennie Higson (who also conducted the ringing), 3 Bridget Paul, 4 Greg Jordan (who was ringing his first quarter peal on ten bells), 5 John Lindsay, 6 Giles Willson, 7 Robin Hickmott, 8 Nicholas Parsons, 9 Graham Paul, and 10 Brett Masters. The quarter peal took fifty minutes to complete.

New ringers for Holy Sepulchre

We hear that the authorities at Holy Sepulchre have decided that having their own band of ringers is necessary so that the bells can be rung each Sunday. Mary Horsley has taken on the task of teaching learners who will, we understand, be members of the Holy Sepulchre congregation. Bell handling lessons are already in progress at St Benedict, West Hunsbury.

September visitors to Northampton

No less than three parties of ringers visited the town during September to sample our bells.
On Thursday 12th, a party from Kent and Sussex rang the bells at three of the Town Centre churches. They started at All Saints at 10.15, followed by Holy Sepulchre at 11.30 and after lunch were at St Peter's at 14.30. They rang for an hour at each church.
On Monday 16th, ringers from Cheshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Shropshire amongst other places rang at All Saints between 12.45 and 13.30.
Finally on 28th members of the Worcestershire & Districts Association visited all the Town Centre churches. The programme of ringing was as follows: St Giles from 10.00 to 11.00, Holy Sepulchre from 11.30 to 12.30, All Saints from 14.00 to 15.00 and St Peter's from 15.30 to 16.30.
We hope all these ringers enjoyed their visit to Northampton.
