NewsFifth Wednesday practice for July 2014The Northampton Ringers Society fifth Wednesday practices are generally held at a tower not on the usual Town Centre rota but still in Northampton. One practice has been at a tower not in Northampton, when Towcester was visited. On the 30th July we shall again leave Northampton, this time to visit Whilton near Daventry, where the local ringers have kindly allowed us the use of the eight bells at St Andrew's church between 7.30pm and 9pm. The bells, which are rung from the ground floor of the tower, were all cast by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in 1994 and replaced a peal of six bells. First peal by members of the Northampton Ringers SocietyThe first peal for the Northampton Ringers society was successfully completed at All Saints on 21st June 2014. Details of the performance follow. Oak Apple DayA special service took place at All Saints on Thursday 29th May to celebrate Oak Apple Day and also to mark the retirement of Lady Juliet Townsend from the post of Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire. All Saints Tower Captain, Bridget Paul, arranged for an invited band to ring for the service. Changes to practice venuesThe Masque Theatre group is performing at Holy Sepulchre church during week commencing 12th May so the Town Centre practice scheduled for 14th May cannot take place. Instead the practice will be at St Giles. The practice on 21st May will be at Holy Sepulchre. Ringing teachers course at All SaintsEleven ringers from the Daventry, Northampton and Towcester Branches of the PDG attended an all-day course on "Teaching Bell Handling" on 26th April 2014. The course took place at All Saints, Northampton, and was led by Graham Nabb of the Association of Ringing Teachers with assistance from Jennie Higson and All Saints Tower captain, Bridget Paul. The course comprised theory sessions which took place in a choir room by kind permission of Father David McConkey, Parish Priest, and there were practical sessions in the tower using bells 3 to 8 inclusive with clappers tied. |
