NewsEvening services at All SaintsIt is understood that the church authorities have decided that there will be no evening services at All Saints between now (April) and September 2015 due to staffing problems. However it is planned that ringing will still take place at All Saints on the 1st and 3rd Sunday evenings, the latter taking the form of a quarter peal attempt. Details will appear in the schedule of practices. Holy WeekIn accordance with convention there will no Northampton practice during Holy Week. Practices resume on 8th April at St Giles, 7pm to 9pm. Third Sunday quarter peal for March successfulEight Northampton Ringers Society members had a successful third Sunday in March when 1260 Stedman Triples was rung before the evening service at All Saints on 15th. This was the first time a quarter peal in the principle had been ring for the Society. The band comprised the following: Jennie Paul 1, Bridget Paul 2, John Lindsay 3, Greg Jordan 4, Robin Hickmott 5, Giles Willson 6, Colin Sampson 7 and Nicholas Parsons 8. Colin Sampson was the conductor for his first quarter peal of Stedman in that role. Somerset ringers visit NorthamptonA band consisting mainly of ringers from Somerset visited Northampton on the 21st and 22nd March. Their planned peal attempts, Lincolnshire Surprise Royal at St Giles on Saturday 21st and London Surprise Royal at All Saints on Sunday 22nd were both successful. First quarter peal on eight bells for Barbara Starmer.The third Sunday evening quarter peal attempt for February 2015 took place at All Saints on 15th of the month and was successful with 1288 changes of Grandsire Triples being rung in 49 minutes. The band comprised the following Northampton Ringers Society members: 1 Barbara Starmer, 2 John Lindsay, 3 Bridget Paul, 4 Greg Jordan (who conducted the ringing), 5 Graham Paul, 6 Giles Willson, 7 Jennie Paul, 8 Nick Chatt. Barbara is to be congratulated on a good performance. The ringing was meant to be for the evening service but none of the ringers were aware until the ringing had finished that there wasn't one! |
