NewsYorkshire ringers visit NorthamptonA team of ringers from Yorkshire, known as the Browning Society and lead by Andrew Aspland, rang at the four town centre churches in Northampton on Sunday 23rd August. They rang for the 10am service at St Giles, the 10.30am service at All Saints, the 11am service at Holy Sepulchre and finished the morning at St Peter's. Special practices in July and August 2015During the summer months, special practices took place at either All Saints or Holy Sepulchre which dealt with particular aspects of ringing. On July 29th at All Saints the subject was "Striking and listening". The following week, August 5th, the practice was again at All Saints with the evening being spent discussing and ringing Plain Bob on different numbers of bells. On August 12th the practice was at Holy Sepulchre with ringing theory and change ringing on handbells being the subject matter. The practice returned to All Saints on August 19th when ringing was confined to Stedman Caters and surprise methods on 8 and 10. The final practice August 26th was also at All Saints with an hour being spent on the maintenance of bell installations and the remainder of the evening being devoted to the raising and lowering of bells in peal. PDG Daventry Branch at Holy SepulchreAs part of their July meeting members of the Daventry Branch of the Peterborough Diocesan Guild rang at Holy Sepulchre during the evening of 11th July 2015. The seven branch members present were augmented by Guild members from other branches - Guilsborough, Northampton and Wellingborough - and from further afield, namely Burnham-on-Sea and County Cork. Fifth Wednesday practice for July 2015The possibility of ringing at St Mary's, Easton Neston near Towcester for the fifth Wednesday practice in July was investigated but it hasn't proved to be possible because of a function at Easton Neston house which is very close to the church. It is hoped that a visit can be arranged at some other time. The practice on 29th July will be at All Saints instead. Magna Carta ringingTo coincide with the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, Northampton Ringers Society members held a quarter peal day on Saturday 20th June 2015 with six quarter peals attempted. The attempts for Plain Bob Caters at St Giles, Plain Bob Triples at Holy Sepulchre, Plain Bob Doubles at St Peter & St Paul, Abington, Yorkshire Surprise Major at St Peter and Kent Treble Bob Royal at All Saints were successful but the attempt at St John the Baptist, Kingsthorpe, failed. However a long touch of 800 changes of Grandsire Doubles was rung instead. |
